Rule of Thirds Explained
When taking pictures, a subject in the very middle of the frame is very boring and not considered a very good picture. To make your pictures better in general you need to take into account the Rule of Thirds. Basically this means that instead of having the main focus of a picture in the middle, you put it in a third. the thirds are both horizontal and vertical. Try to put your main subject along one of these lines or even better, where two lines cross each other.

You will also need to remember that if you are photographing something moving then you should give it space to move into, rather than space behind it. For example, if you are photographing a horse running into a paddock from the right then place the horse in either the bottom right or top right line intersection on the grid above (keeping the sky or background and grass in mind), then have most of the picture showing fields to run into, a picture like this shows freedom and movement and is interesting and pleasing to look at.
